China’s Daily-Use Ceramics Exports Go Green: Sustainable Production Boosts Global Competitiveness
Beijing, April 16 (Xinhua) — China’s daily-use ceramics industry is accelerating its shift toward low-carbon, eco-friendly and sustainable manufacturing, driving steady export growth while meeting stricter global environmental standards.
As governments and consumers worldwide increasingly prioritize green supply chains, Chinese ceramic exporters have upgraded production technologies and product design to maintain their leading position in the global market.
According to recent customs statistics, China remains the world’s largest exporter of daily-use ceramics, supplying more than 60% of global demand. In 2025, exports of environmentally friendly ceramic tableware, cookware and household items grew by more than 12% year-on-year, outpacing the overall industry growth rate.
Major manufacturers have widely adopted clean energy, water recycling systems, energy-saving kilns and low-pollution glazes to reduce carbon emissions and waste. Many enterprises have obtained international green certifications including FDA, LFGB, CE and REACH, which have become essential passports for entering high-end markets in Europe, North America, Japan and South Korea.
Industry experts noted that global buyers are no longer focused only on price, but increasingly value sustainability, food safety and circular production. In response, Chinese exporters are launching biodegradable ceramic products, recycled-material ceramics, energy-saving tableware and non-toxic matte-glaze items, which enjoy growing popularity in cross-border e-commerce and offline retail.
The green transformation has also helped Chinese ceramic enterprises mitigate trade barriers related to environmental requirements. By reducing energy consumption and pollutant emissions, the industry has improved its international image and enhanced long-term competitiveness against low-cost producers in other regions.
Looking ahead, the trend of sustainable consumption will continue to shape the global daily ceramics market. Chinese manufacturers plan to further invest in carbon reduction, intelligent green production and circular economy models, aiming to consolidate market share while leading the world in eco-friendly ceramic development.
“Sustainability is no longer an option but a core strategy for China’s ceramic exports,” said an official from the national ceramics industry association. “Green innovation will be the key driving force for the high-quality development of China’s daily-use ceramics in the global market.”
